Of Course Brands Matter…Don’t They?
Just as in any other product that you can think of, there are window brands all along the spectrum of quality from builder grade (entry-level) to the absolute pinnacle of premium. Windows follow the same standards as carmakers and electronics, you can get a 65 inch TV for a few hundred dollars or a few thousand dollars. What’s the difference? Quality, plain and simple. The old adage, “You get what you pay for.” wins again.
That being said, it’s a lot less about a specific window brand and much more about specific lines within a brand. For example, it’s not that Pella is better than Windsor is better than Andersen across the board. Each window brand will have differences in their processes or materials but they also have a lot in common. Glass, for example; most premium window makers in the U.S. use the same glass which is made by Cardinal Glass.
You’re better of when it comes to your window shopping if you’re able to compare window brands. If window maker “A” shows up at your home and demos the only window they carry, of course, they’re going to make a case that it’s the best window on the market. But you’ve got one shot at this and you need to step back, take your time, and get it right.
As you spend time comparing window lines you’re going to start to realize what features really matter to you.
